Pastel Painting in a Modern Art World
As a young and budding artist, I find myself constantly engaged in a conflict of Old vs. New. The constantly progressive nature of our society at times can cause one to forget altogether about the foundation in which we stand. We can forget that we are, in essence, standing upon the shoulders of those that have gone before us. In the art world, I’ve discovered I must look back at the artists of old, the champions of pastel paintings, oil paintings, chalk, etc. in order to come to a better understanding of the techniques in which I strive to expand upon.
