hydroponics
Evidence suggests that hydroponics were used as far back as the first century by the emperor Tiberius. However, after the first century hydroponics do not show up again until the seventeenth century when France and England started using experimental hydroponics. In 1925 the United States began to develop hydroponics for large scale crop production. In Europe and Asia hydroponic technologies expanded significantly during the 1950s and 1960s. Hydroponics began to be used in the desserts of Iran in the 1970s. However in 1973 two issues halted the development of hydroponic technology: increasing oil prices and fewer chemicals registered for pest control. Since then hydroponics have developed slowly; however currently there is an increased interest in the development of hydroponics.
