Last night was a bit of an international night for my family. Each of us did a bit of a potluck where we were in charge of one element of the meal and then at dinner we discussed the parts of the feast and where they originated from. My son made a salad that had a very Italian flair and he talked about that region where his ingredients were from. My daughter took care of dessert and it was flan, so we heard about Spain. The wine was from Languedoc France and I spoke about this little known region so that we could all learn a bit more about the geography.

My son and his wife are celebrating their  first wedding anniversary this week. They got married young, right out of college, and before either of them had found a decent job, so they had to skip any kind of a honeymoon. I think they ended up taking two days to go to an amusement park and then they both had to get back to their jobs. But my son finally found a full time teaching position and now they can afford to take a mini honeymoon for their anniversary. They rented a very small cottage at the Jersey shore, so I gave them a beach umbrella as an anniversary gift. I’m they will enjoy it for many beach vacations in the future.

You might think it strange to simply get in the car and drive just for the fun of it.  It’s a somewhat long lost way of taking a simple and cheap weekend getaway.  It can be a lot of fun. Simply take a few moments and do some nasic research and brainstorm some good local areas that are popular for many out of towners.

My Husband wants to take a Golf Weekend Trip with his buddies to the Smokey Mountains. Last week my wife and I returned from a wonderful vacation in France. We stayed in a rented villa near the town of Remy. I had heard about this beautiful area from a friend about a year ago. When I decided to try vacationing there myself, I researched the region on the internet by typing “villa St Remy de Provence” into the search engine. There I found several sites that featured many different villas one may rent when visiting the region. My wife and I decided upon a small villa that was fully equipped with two bedrooms, kitchen, two baths, an outdoor pool, and a gorgeous flower garden.

My husband’s fiftieth birthday is coming in two months and I am trying to figure out the best present to get for him. I was thinking of surprising him with a trip to Hawaii. I looked into Travel Tickets and they are not as expensive as I thought. His birthday is during the winter season so I wanted to pick a place that is very warm and tropical. He has only had cold birthdays so I hope that he will love this one. It is a special birthday since he will be half a century so we need to make it count.

Anyone that has the time to waste at airports waiting in line and very limited funds certainly doesn’t need private jets.
