Oximetry is the Way Doctors Measure Oxygen Levels

When a person needs to have their oxygen saturation monitored from home or in the hospital, doctors us a special non-invasive method to do so.  The name of the method is Oximetry, and the device used in Oximetry is a Pulse Oximeter.  You will usually see this small device on a person’s finger, toe or ear lobe.  This non-invasive method of measuring oxygen levels in the blood is used for many reasons like for people with breathing, heart or cognitive problems due to low oxygen levels.  Sometimes they are used for patients after surgery, and sometimes they are used for patients that need regular monitoring from home.
