Scuba on Sanibel Island

Scuba diving is, understandably, one of Sanibel and Captiva Island’s major attractions. Often claimed by people in the know to be ‘ideal’ as a scuba diving destination, this barrier island off the southwest coast of Florida has over a dozen artificial reefs within a 15 mile radius.

The building of these reefs helped restock the waters around Sanibel Island with fish and brought along to the area more scuba divers and fishermen. The most popular of the Sanibel’s reefs is Belton Johnson Reef, which can be found off Bowman’s Beach, is allegedly named after a legendary fishing guide.

Whether you’re a rank beginner or expert scuba diver you’ll enjoy the fact that family owned and operated Seahorse Scuba company has been catering to Sanibel Island scuba divers since 1989.
